The SD Association is introducing a new performance class and card symbol that will help consumers identify SD cards that meet specifications that can optimally run mobile applications.  Android Marshmallow is credited with inspiring the new class and symbol, as Marshmallow introduced the ability to adopt external storage and treat it as internal from the system’s view.

Final Android 7.1 Developer Preview has been released.

The TOR Project announced the release of its prototype Tor-enabled phone based on the hardened Copperhead OS.  The TOR Project created this as a response to what they view as Google’s attempts to lock down Android and the plethora of security issues caused by custom OEM mods.  Only available on Pixel and Nexus devices that have verified boot enabled.

Sharp is releasing a Star Wars phone in Japan to coincide with the release of Star Wars: Rogue One.

Google’s DeepMind has beaten chess players, beaten Go masters, and will now learn…StarCraft 2!  DeepMind researches will be training the AI to defeat opponents in a non-turn based, non-static piece game.  Blizzard hopes that with this collaboration the StarCraft AI can be more dynamic and not based on pre-written, predictable scripts.

Google Wifi, announced at Made By Google event on Oct. 4, was independently tested at the request of Google against competitors of mesh-enabled wifi routers.

Google has warned journalists and academics that their accounts may have been targeted by nation sponsored hackers.

Qwiklabs is acquired by Google.  The company, founded in 2012, “provides hands-on lab learning environments for leading cloud platforms and infrastructure software vendors.”  Google hopes to apply Qwiklabs methods to engaging users on Google Cloud and G Suite.

Google’s deep learning algorithm now able to detect a type of diabetes through retina images on par with trained ophthalmologists..

The Broadband Internet Technical Advisory Group, of which Google is a founding member, has laid out its recommendations for IoT devices.  The recommendations cover essential security steps such as regular software updates and password protection to prevent IoT devices from being used maliciously.
